Old Friends

I had an incredibly vivid dream about an old friend last night. We were catching up on things and talking and having a great time. She had moved back to Georgia, but I'm not sure how we ran into one another.

I looked for her all day on the internet, but am not sure where she is now. I am not in touch with her family anymore. I just feel like the dream is still urging me to talk to her, but I've had to give up for today. She has a very common name, so google spit out so many results, my head is spinning.

I feel very silly for working on this for so long, and yet...

I still haven't found her.

Off Topic...

I was wondering if you could give insight as to the financial situation at Candler. My estimated budget was about 5000 off of Candler's estimated Cost of Attendance (my budget was with me staying at Turner Village @ about 500 a month). Did you find that their CoA was over-estimated? The 5000 dollar difference is really the difference between my affording to go and not.

It's down to Candler and Meadville - and after visiting Candler last week it's hard to figure out which to go to. Hope you're enjoying the semester!

Hey Scott,

I talked to a friend of mine and he said if you live in Turner Village with a roommate like he does and be conservative about other spending, you are correct that the estimate is high. Turner Village includes all utilities except power, which is very low except in the heat of summer when you may need to run the a/c more.
I did the math too, and I think you are about right. If you're not sure about having enough spending money, the jobs on campus pay $11/hour, and if you apply for financial aid, you will most likely get a work/study slot as part of your award. That is about $100/week spending money. Also a lot of people work at a church or during the summer to make extra cash. You should be fine. Atlanta is not that expensive if you can resist eating out all the time. Groceries are cheap, and there is free dinner available almost every night of the week somewhere on campus. We have had a hard time with eating out too much, so that's why I asked one of my more frugal friends for a second opinion. If you feel pulled toward Candler, I suggest going for it. I really like it, although it is difficult to do all the work and the extracurricular stuff I want to do.

So I think I've asked before, but I can't remember. Are you planning to do UU parish ministry? If so, do you think you'll be fine with Candler (as far as getting the UU history, etc)? Do you connect with the UU congregations in the area?
